Army pledges continued support for sports as Captains' Golf Tournament ends in Abuja

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to bolstering sporting activities within the nation, showcasing its support for the Captains’ Inaugural Golf Tournament held at the Tukur Yusuf Buratai International Golf Resort and Country Club (TYB IGRCC) in Yar’dua Barracks, Asokoro, Abuja.
Over the course of a week, golf enthusiasts from across Nigeria converged to demonstrate their prowess on the green, vying for top honors.
This initiative by the Nigerian Army underscores its dedication to fostering national unity and development through the avenue of sports.
Marking a significant milestone for the club, the tournament aimed to cultivate camaraderie and sportsmanship among golfers while ushering in new leadership represented by the newly appointed captains and executive members.
At the closing ceremony, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Grand Patron of the club and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), commended the organizers for orchestrating a successful tournament.
He reaffirmed the Army’s unwavering support for sporting endeavors, highlighting their integral role in promoting unity and development.
Representing the COAS at the event, Major General Sani Mohammed, Chief of Training (COT) Army, emphasized the Nigerian Army’s serious approach to sporting events.
He stressed that such initiatives align with the COAS’s command philosophy and serve as a catalyst for national progress and cohesion.
 Additionally, Major General Mohammed acknowledged the exceptional facilities at TYB Golf Resort and encouraged golfers nationwide to become members of the club.
During his address, Major General Samson Jiya, the Captain of TYB-IGRCC, expressed gratitude to the Life Patron of the club, Ambassador Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, for founding the esteemed institution in 2017.
 He highlighted the club’s commitment to organizing various tournaments aimed at promoting the sport of golf and providing members with enriching golfing experiences within the Federal Capital Territory.
Major General Jiya also extended appreciation to the club’s Grand Patron and current COAS for their unwavering support.
The pinnacle of the event saw Mr. Mike Timothy clinch the tournament’s star prize, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Nigerian Army, organizers, and sponsors for their generous support.
The tournament featured multiple categories including cardies, ladies, veterans, and men’s divisions, showcasing the diverse talent within the golfing community.
The Captains’ Inaugural Golf Tournament served as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to promoting sportsmanship, camaraderie, and national development through the platform of golf.
