Army Officers and Soldiers Bodies Found in Niger Community after Boko Haram Attack

The incident in the Alawa area of Shiroro local government, Niger State, Nigeria, involving missing military personnel and suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, unfolded during a confrontation last Friday.
Reportedly, gunmen believed to be affiliated with Boko Haram, besieged the Bassa community for three days, culminating in a fierce clash with a joint task force comprising military and vigilante groups from Alawa, Erena, and Pandogari, in the vicinity of Lolo in Alawa.
Sources, speaking anonymously, revealed that among the casualties were a captain, a major, and four others from the security forces.
Tragically, the security officers reportedly lost their bearings during the encounter in the forest on Friday night.
The recovery of their bodies, bearing gunshot wounds to the head, further underscores the severity of the situation.
Niger State’s Commissioner for Homeland Security, General Garba Abdullahi Mohammed, confirmed ongoing efforts to track down the Boko Haram insurgents but refrained from disclosing the exact number of casualties.
At the time of reporting, military authorities had yet to officially confirm the reported fatalities among the officers and soldiers.
The gravity of the situation is underscored by the military’s decision to cordon off the area.
The recovery of bodies in the bush, coupled with the absence of official confirmation, leaves a lingering sense of unease and underscores the ongoing threat posed by insurgent groups like Boko Haram in the region.
