Troops of Operation HADIN KAI, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have neutralised no fewer than 21 Boko Haram /ISWAP terrorists during a fierce gun battle in Sojiri and Kayamla villages along the Damboa–Maiduguri Road in Borno State.
Sources told The News Chronicle that the encounter occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, following credible intelligence that a large number of terrorists had converged along the axis, possibly in preparation for coordinated attacks.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops moved to the location and engaged the terrorists in a prolonged firefight. The superior firepower and coordinated action of the troops and CJTF forced the terrorists to retreat, leaving behind several casualties.
Security sources confirmed that at least 21 terrorists were neutralised during the operation, while troops also disrupted the movement of terrorist logistics along the route.
The operation is part of sustained clearance and interdiction efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to deny terrorists freedom of movement, degrade their operational capacity, and secure major highways and surrounding communities in Borno State.
Troops are said to be maintaining a presence in the area to prevent regrouping and to ensure continued safety of commuters and residents along the Damboa–Maiduguri corridor.
