Armed Gunmen Kill Village Head, Two Policemen And 11 Others in Nasarawa

The village head of Katakpa in Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, two police officers and 11 civilians have been killed by armed gunmen suspected to be militants.

According to a resident, Ibrahim Shuaibu, who confirmed the incident to newsmen,  the gunmen stormed the area at about 2am on Monday, February 26, 2024.

Shuaibu who stated that the gunmen set some houses on fire and opened fire on the occupants who were trying to escape, added that the hoodlums earlier attacked the police outpost in the community and killed two policemen before proceeding to attack the villagers.

Also confirming the incident, Chairman of Toto LGA, Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, who said that he was yet to get details of civilians killed in the attack stated that as of the time of the incident, he was at a function with the Deputy Governor in Umaisha. 

Recall that gunmen raided Katakpa on January 1, 2024, killing eight people and setting ablaze houses, vehicles, including the palace of the village head.

Also, on January 1, 2024, three soldiers reportedly deployed to the community on January 8, 2024, alongside two vigilantes, were killed in an ambush. 

Reacting, the Nasarawa state Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe visited victims of the attack at the General Hospital Umaisha to commiserate with them.
