An Arewa youth leader, Abdul Dan-Bature, has raised alarm over an alleged threat to his life, accusing Nigeria’s Minister of Defence and one of his aides of targeting him after he criticised the worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria.
Dan-Bature made the claim during a press conference where he appeared alongside his three children in a video shared online obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday.
He said he decided to speak publicly because he feared for his safety, alleging that the threats began after he drew attention to the deteriorating security situation and killings across northern communities.
According to him, one of the minister’s legal advisers allegedly contacted him last week to pass a message about plans against him. He stated that the development has forced him and his family to live in fear, adding that he can no longer move freely due to the alleged threats.
The youth leader called on northern elders, traditional rulers, and Nigerians to take note of his claims and hold the minister and his aide responsible if anything happens to him or members of his family.
As of the time of filing this report, the Minister of Defence and his aide had not publicly responded to the allegations.
