APC Waives Screening for Tinubu Ahead of Presidential Primaries

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has waived the screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s forthcoming presidential primaries.

The decision was reached during the 188th meeting of the APC National Working Committee held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

In a statement signed by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said President Tinubu had been deemed duly screened in accordance with the constitution of the party and was therefore cleared to participate in the upcoming primaries without undergoing another screening process.

According to the statement, the decision was taken pursuant to Article 13.4 (xiii) and (xiv) of the APC Constitution, which empowers the National Working Committee to organise and supervise party primaries and, in special circumstances, grant waivers in the interest of the party.

The APC explained that the President had already received overwhelming endorsements and votes of confidence from critical stakeholders within the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other organs of the party during the APC National Summit held on May 22, 2025.

The party further stated that requiring the President to appear physically before a screening committee would be unnecessary, considering that he had already undergone screening and clearance ahead of the 2022 APC presidential primaries.

“The President, as leader of our great party and incumbent President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, has already been duly screened and cleared ahead of the 2022 presidential primaries. Requiring his physical appearance before a screening committee at this time would be redundant and unnecessary,” the statement read.

The move is expected to further strengthen President Tinubu’s position within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 general elections, amid growing endorsements from party leaders and stakeholders across the country.
