Tension erupted in Ejigbo Local Government Area of Osun State on Saturday, August 15, 2026, as aggrieved voters protested alleged vote-buying during the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
According to a video obtained by The News Chronicle, chaos broke out at a polling location after voters reportedly confronted individuals accused of distributing cash to influence the electoral process.
The situation escalated when community members allegedly intercepted a man carrying a black nylon bag containing bundles of cash believed to be intended for distribution to voters.
Displaying the money to journalists and election observers at the scene, one voter accused political agents of attempting to buy votes, shouting, “They are sharing money over there, APC is sharing money over there.”
Another voter claimed that N10,000 was being offered to voters, saying, “It is N10,000. They are giving N10,000 over there.”
The allegations triggered an angry reaction from residents, with several voters demanding the intervention of law enforcement officers.
“Look at them! You need to go and call the law. Call law enforcement,” one protester shouted.
Security personnel and election observers subsequently moved in to monitor the situation as tensions continued to rise at the polling area.
The alleged incident has raised fresh concerns among voters and observers over attempts to influence the outcome of the Osun governorship election through financial inducements.
