A dramatic political shake-up has unfolded in Katsina as a sitting member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Sani Aliyu Danlami lost his bid to secure the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 election in the Katsina Central Federal Constituency.
After days of high-stakes negotiations and behind-the-scenes lobbying, party power brokers settled on Abba Mangal, son of influential businessman Dahiru Mangal, as the party’s consensus candidate.
The decision signals a major shift in the constituency’s political landscape, unseating an incumbent with an established grassroots network.
Even more striking is the emergence of Mangal, a lawyer, who had not publicly declared interest in the race.
The News Chronicle reports that despite the upset, Danlami moved swiftly to douse tensions, accepting the outcome and urging supporters to remain peaceful and loyal to the party.
He stressed the need for unity and stability as critical ahead of the elections.
