The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly denied reports suggesting plans to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the party described the growing media reports as “purely speculative, untrue and utterly baseless,” urging the public to disregard what it called a “media frenzy” driven by rumour-peddlers and questionable sources.
The APC said the speculation recently escalated with the circulation of names of individuals allegedly being considered as replacements for Vice President Shettima, describing such claims as mischievous and misleading.
The party further called on media organisations to refrain from giving space to unverified reports capable of promoting discord and confusion in the polity.
According to the statement, current laws and electoral regulations still place a ban on political activities, stressing that the party remains focused on governance rather than 2027 politics.
“At this time, our Party remains focused on supporting President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in delivering the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda and entrenching its bold reforms that are now steadily transforming the economy, building prosperity, and uplifting the living conditions of our people,” the APC stated.
The party also cautioned ministers, senior government officials and party leaders against making statements that could fuel unnecessary speculation, urging them to concentrate on service delivery and the success of the Tinubu-led administration.
The statement was signed by Felix Morka, CON, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
