The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State has firmly declared its refusal to participate in the national protest scheduled for August 1st-10th, which is being organized by a group of Nigerian youths.Â
This stance was communicated by the APC Chairman, Barrister Idris Shuaibu, during a special meeting at the party’s secretariat where stakeholders, the State Working Committee (SWC), local government area, and wards officials were present.
In his address in Yola, the APC leader described the upcoming protest as anti-people and anti-government, asserting that it opposes the commendable leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Barrister Shuaibu emphasized that rather than protesting, the party should celebrate President Tinubu’s significant and historic achievements, particularly his success in ensuring financial autonomy for local governments through the courts.
According to Barrister Shuaibu, this accomplishment is a milestone that previous administrations, including those of Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’adua, Goodluck Jonathan, and Muhammadu Buhari, failed to achieve.
He argued that this achievement will empower grassroots governance and help combat poverty, as local governments are the closest tier of government to the people.
“There’s no way we will protest; we rather celebrate the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for making us proud as a party and shaping the course of history in the political space of the country,” said Barrister Shuaibu.
He urged party members to return to their communities and discourage any involvement in the upcoming protest, which he characterized as a ploy by political opponents defeated in the last election to undermine President Tinubu’s government.
He further advised party members to remain law-abiding and conduct themselves peacefully, reiterating that the APC in Adamawa is determined to reclaim its mandate with plans and strategies already being put in place for the 2027 elections.
Barrister Shuaibu also praised the efforts of stakeholders who attended the meeting despite their busy schedules and commended the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his efforts to restore national security, despite his unavoidable absence from the meeting.
Clarifying the party’s decision to boycott the local government area elections organized by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC), Barrister Shuaibu accused the current PDP-led government under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of violating ADSIEC’s laws.
He alleged that the commission had been compromised by appointing loyalists of the ruling party, ensuring that all LG Chairmen winners would be PDP candidates.
As a result, APC stakeholders unanimously agreed to boycott the election to avoid wasting time, energy, and resources, which they believe would only benefit the PDP.
