Anambra Workers Resort to Divine Help to Get Soludo Meet Up With New Minimum Wage Demands

The Organized Labour in Anambra State has announced a prayer session for its members on Friday, November 1, 2024.

The session aims to address lingering issues surrounding the minimum wage payment in the state.

The prayer session, scheduled for 10 am at the Teachers House (NUT) behind Prof. Kenneth Dike E. Library in Awka, will be an opportunity to update members on the latest developments regarding the minimum wage and consequential adjustments implementation within the state.

The workers gave the notice in a joint statement signed by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC.

Recall that the State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo ad, promised to pay N70,000 minimum wage by the end of last month- October.

In the statement signed by Comrades Humphrey Nwafor, NLC Chairman; Chris Ogbonna, TUC Chairman; Gaius Chukwuka, NLC Secretary; and Barrister Cmr. The workers, Alex Ebi, TUC Secretary, expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his responsiveness and commitment to their welfare, particularly his acceptance of the N70,000 net minimum wage demand.

However, they raised concerns about the consequential adjustments for employees on Levels 08 to 16, calling for further adjustments to reflect seniority and cadre differences and proportional compensation aligned with roles and responsibilities.

Additionally, they demanded the inclusion of domestic servants for Levels 15 and 16, citing customary practices and urging the government to rectify this oversight.

The workers also appreciated the Governor’s approval of a Cash Award of N10,000 to all pensioners in Anambra State starting from October 2024 and equally accepted the salary structure for Levels 1 to 7, which addressed the needs of junior-level employees.

It was gathered that the minimum wage issue had delayed this month’s salary, which ordinarily would have been ready by the 25th of October.
