Anambra to embark on intensified search for COVID-19 cases

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Health, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, has disclosed that active coronavirus case search would commence this week following Governor Willie Obiano’s announcement of the opening of testing centres in the state.
Onyemaechi disclosed this in an exclusive interview with TNC in Awka.

Anambra over the weekend, recorded an additional 3 new cases of coronavirus, bringing the total confirmed cases in the state to 5, with only one person discharged.
Onyemaechi said following the relaxation of the lockdown in Anambra state barely a few weeks ago, it was important that regular monitoring was conducted to detect any symptom of the deadly virus early enough.

He noted that the Governor’s announcement that two testing centres would commence operations in Awka and Nnewi this week was a laudable step, adding that the best health guidelines would still be adhered to when the centres begin operations.

Dr Onyemaechi, who is also the Executive Secretary of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, ASHIA, explained that experts who would man the centre would complete their training today, after which officials from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, would inspect and accredit the centres.

“I want to commend Governor Obiano for laying out proactive plans towards containing the spread of the virus in Anambra state since the index case was announced in the country. By this gesture, he has distinguished himself as an administrator who leads in the front. When the testing centres come on stream, we would be able to conduct more tests and as such, be able to nip the pat of infection in the bud,” Onyemaechi pointed out.
