Anambra Police authorities meet over surge in cult activities, killings

In response to the increasing incidence of cult activities and killings in Anambra State, a meeting of all Area Commanders, Divisional Police officers and tactical Commanders was on Wednesday summoned at the State Police Command headquarters in Awka.

The meeting was held at the instance of the State Commissioner of Police, John Abang.

Recent days have seen an increase in cult-related activities as well as killings across parts of the state, the latest being the shooting of a two-year-old baby in a misfired shootout in Awka.

At the meeting, the Police Commissioner, Abang directed an immediate and aggressive manhunt of perpetrators of the recent cult killings in the state as well as their sponsors for a total clampdown on cultism and other heinous crimes in the State.

He said the Command is determined as usual to ensure that criminals have no hiding place in the State no matter how highly placed they might be and would deal decisively with anyone apprehended in accordance with the Law.

The Commissioner warned parents to caution their children to refrain from indulging in cultism and other nefarious activities as anyone found will face the full wrath of the Law

Meanwhile, an update this morning from the Command, said the directive is already yielding results as some notorious suspects have been arrested and are making useful statements about their levels of involvement.

“Consequently, the Command further assures all Anambra residents of its commitment towards providing Safety and Security in the State. The Command equally enjoins parents/guardians to caution their children to refrain from indulging in cultism and other nefarious activities as anyone found wanting will face the full wrath of the Law,” the Commissioner said.
