The last may not have been heard of the 21-year-old apprentice from Ebonyi State, who killed his employer with a pestle during an altercation at Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra State, as the police have revealed that the suspect has connived with another to transfer a huge amount of money from his master’s account.
Recall that the apprentice, identified as Chiemerie Anieke, allegedly attacked the boss, identified simply as Ikechukwu Nwite, when his boss scolded him over his attitude of pilfering money and taking drugs.
The victim was a businessman operating at the popular Ogbo-Ogwu Bridgehead Medicine Market in Onitsha. The suspect was eventually arrested by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Anambra State Police Command.
In a latest update on the matter, the Police Public relations Officer in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga said the Command has successfully arraigned two suspects in connection with the murder of Nwite and the subsequent theft of his funds.
He said the suspect was also linked to an attack on one Ogechukwu Nwite, who is a sister of the deceased.
“The suspect was arraigned before the High Court, Onitsha, alongside one Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo ‘M’, aged 21 years, who allegedly aided the commission of the crime by providing a bank account through which over Eight Million Naira (#8,000,000) belonging to the deceased was fraudulently transferred,” he disclosed.
Ikenga revealed that the operatives of the Command recovered the sum of Six Million Naira (#6,000,000) from the suspects, being part of the stolen funds, which has been tendered as an exhibit in the ongoing court proceedings.
According to him, the suspects have since been remanded at the Correctional Centre pending further proceedings in the matter.
“The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring that justice is served and warns individuals against engaging in criminal activities, as the long arm of the law will always catch up with offenders,” Ikenga assured.
