The Anambra State Chapter of the Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide says it will deploy its machinery to support the full implementation of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s new security initiatives, which aim to address insecurity in the state.
On Saturday, Soludo announced the launch of Operation Udo Ga Achi and the Agunechemba Security Outfit, which will provide security vehicles and other equipment to the security agencies and deploy technology in the fight.
Earlier, before the launch, the governor signed the Anambra State Homeland Security Law 2025, which not only establishes the state’s new vigilante architecture (Agunechemba) but also provides a framework for community/citizen ownership and participation in the state’s sustainable security and social re-engineering.
Speaking on the initiative on Monday, after he officially assumed office as the Anambra State Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu described the initiatives rolled out by the state government as a welcome development that presents a pathway to restoring sanity, stability, and security in the state.
According to him, the recent unsavory experiences Ndi Anambra has had in the hands of criminals require that the government take unprecedented action to nip the situation in the bud.
Okpalaezeukwu revealed that examining the State Homeland Security Law provides a legal framework to support deliberate efforts to crush insecurity permanently and de-emphasize other activities that give impetus to all kinds of heinous crimes.
“It is a welcome development because necessity is the mother of invention. Anambra has been bedeviled by so much insecurity in recent times, requiring drastic steps.
“The initiatives rolled out by Mr Governor also attest to his commitment to the foremost pillar of his administration, which is security, law, and order.
“I have studied the Homeland Security Law and found that it is a comprehensive legal framework meant to support the efforts of the state government towards achieving effective security of lives and properties in the state.
“The Agunechemba Security Outfit via its composition, powers and functions, is formidable and promises a lot of hopes that in no distant time, insecurity in the state will be a thing of the past,” he noted.
Okpalaezeukwu said as the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization in the state, they have deemed it necessary to take responsibility for the full implementation of the initiatives through enlightenment, and engagement of the people.
He said the organization would champion the people’s reorientation to Ndigbo’s core values to ensure that they do not continue to prioritize ‘Ego Mbute’ (Get-rich-quick and Die-Young).
He said; “There is need for us to utilize our structures across the nooks and crannies of the state, to escalate this message and also, to inform them that security is everybody’s business, as nobody is immune to insecurity.
“As long as all hands are on deck on security matters, we are sure that impact shall be maximized and purpose of absolute security of lives and property in Anambra actualized.”
