The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) on Tuesday presented Certificates of Return to chairmen-elect of the 21 Local Government Areas of the state who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during last Saturday’s council elections.
The electoral body also presented Certificates of Return to deputy chairmen-elect and councillors who emerged victorious in their respective wards.
Presenting the certificates at the ANSIEC Secretariat in Awka, the Chairman of the Commission, Genevieve Osakwe, described the election as free, fair and credible.
Osakwe thanked the electorate for coming out en masse to exercise their franchise, as well as security agencies for providing a peaceful atmosphere during the exercise.
According to her, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) won two councilorship seats in Ajali and Ndikelionwu wards in Orumba North Local Government Area, out of the 326 wards in the state.
Speaking to journalists after receiving his certificate, the Chairman-elect of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Chukwuemerie Ibekwe, said his emergence would signal a new dawn in the area.

He vowed to pursue the eight-point agenda contained in his manifesto.
Also speaking, the Chairman-elect of Njikoka Local Government Area, Dr Ikechukwu Okeakpu, expressed appreciation to the people of Njikoka for finding him worthy to serve them.
He pledged to work in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the state.
