Anambra Insecurity: ZLP Fingers APGA, APC

Awka – The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), on Wednesday demanded that the embattled All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) come out clean on their roles in the upsurge of violence ahead of the November 6 governorship election.

The Publicity Secretary of the Campaign Council, Afam Dozie Ofomata, who disclosed this, said the party came at the conclusion, after a critical review of the rising insecurity situation in Anambra state.

On Tuesday, an APGA campaign rally was thwarted by gunmen, resulting in the death of one soldier and unconfirmed number of gunmen.
The State Police Command through its spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga, had yesterday, said it successfully repelled the attack.

According to Ofomata, the intelligence in the public space, places a burden on APGA and APC, as political parties, to speak up regarding their alleged connections with the wave of attacks ahead of polls.

“APGA and APC control the apparatus of power at the state and federal levels and as such, bear the onus to explain their roles in the dire situation in the state, particularly since it became clear that the electoral tide is not flowing in their favour,” he said.

He alleged that there is clear indication that those behind the insecurity situation are parties who, having realized that there is no hope for their candidates, are desperate to instill fear in the mind of the electorate and prevent them from coming out enmasse to vote on November 6.

“It is obvious that APGA and APC are unsettled with uncompromising consensus by Ndi Anambra to elect the ZLP candidate, Dr. Obiora Okonkwo, whose popularity has continued to soar as the coalition flagbearer for the November election, given his practical credentials to rescue the state from the current misrule of the APGA.

“The ZLP however urges its teeming supporters to remain law abiding, and at alert, as they continue in their determined rally to elect Dr. Okonkwo, come November 6, 2021,” he urged.
