Anambra State Government has summoned the security personnel who beat up a girl at Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe (NOCEN) to explain what led to the assault.

Pictures of the victim, who is a student of the College, which trended on social media, showed a badly battered and bloodied face.

The victim was said to have been assaulted by the security operative for dressing indecently to school.

A statement from the State Ministry of Education over the weekend said Governor Chukwuma Soludo frowned seriously at the incident that led to the grievous bodily injuries inflicted on the student.

“On no account should beating solve the problem of the society.

“The suspects are invited to the office of the Commissioner for Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh for commencement of investigation,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, the management of the College of Education has condemned what it described as the unprofessional handling of the case of indecent dressing, leading to bodily injuries to the student involved.

The College Information and Public Relations Officer, Benny Egbunonu, who stated the position in a chat with newsmen, said while the College maintains zero tolerance for indecent dressing, staff involved in handling it, have an obligation to comply with agreed ways of working, which involves professionalism and respect for the dignity of the human person.

He revealed that following the ugly incident, the Director of Security has been queried and a panel of inquiry was set up to administratively handle the internal aspects of the matter concerning unprofessional conduct and breaching the ethical codes of the College.

“Their report is expected on or before Thursday the 26th of September, 2024.

“The external aspect bothering on possible crime has been reported to the police and the security personnel involved have been arrested and are undergoing investigation for allegedly causing bodily harm on another,” he said.

Egbunonu further revealed that the student assaulted received adequate medical attention both at the College Medical Center and at the State Teaching Hospital. She has been confirmed fit and is now studying for her examination.
