Anambra FRSC Reemphasizes Clampdown on Rickety Vehicles as Truck Crushes Man to Death

Awka – A yet-to-be-identified male adult was on Saturday crushed by an unidentified driver of a Mack Truck, opposite Goodness and Mercy motor park Onitsha.

The truck with registration number, JJJ 660 XB, was said to be rolling backwards while it was caught up with trafficand crushed the man to death.

An eyewitness attributed the crash to brake failure.

Confirming the incident, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Edor, said three male adults were involved in the Crash.

“One of the male adult was rushed to Toronto hospital by FRSC rescue team from Upper Iweka Outpost.

“He was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty and his body deposited at the Morgue,” he said.

She revealed that the driver of the truck has been handed over to Okpoko Police station.

 “The FRSC Sector Commander in  Anambra State, Andrew Kumapayi sends his condolence to the deceased family.

“He also warns motorists especially truck drivers to put their vehicles in order, as the Corps has started a clampdown on rickety vehicles, which includes vehicles that their brakes are not in good order, which usually leads to brake failure.

 “The Command also advisees pedestrians to watch before crossing the road especially behind a  truck or climbing a hill,” the Anambra FRSC PEO said.
