The wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has hailed the heroic exploits of Nigeria’s senior female team, the Super Falcons, at the just-concluded Women’s African Cup of Nations, WAFCON, in Morocco.
On Saturday, the Nigerian women defeated hosts, the Desert Lionesses of Morocco, to clinch a record 10th continental title.
The Moroccans had gone ahead in the first half to score two goals, making the encounter difficult for the Super Falcons.
However, the Nigerian women fought back in the second half, scoring first through a penalty converted by Esther Okoronkwo in the 64th minute, before equalizing in the 71st minute through Folashade Ijamilusi.
Jennifer Echegini finally scored the winner for the Nigerian women in the 88th minute, converting from a lovely cross from Okoronkwo.
Reacting to the victory in a statement on Sunday, the Anambra first lady congratulated the Super Falcons, describing their performance as exceptional, filled with grit, resilience, and determination.
According to her, by coming back from two goals down to beat the host country, the girls exemplified the dogged and “can-do spirit” that Nigeria is historically known for.
“Congratulations to the phenomenal Super Falcons of Nigeria for the historic victory at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations 2024 in Morocco.
“Exceptional game last night, filled with grit, resilience, and determination.
“By coming back from two-nil down to beat the host nation, our girls exemplified the dogged and can-do spirit that our great nation is historically known for.
