Corps members serving in Anambra State have been urged to strive to fulfill their Oath of Allegiance, to identify and solve problems of their host communities.
This way, they will contribute positively to the progress and development of the society.
The advice came from the State Coordinator of, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Blessing Ekene Iruma when she declared closed, the 2024 Batch B Stream I orientation course at the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Unity Permanent Orientation Camp, Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South Local Government Area of the State.
Iruma, who described the NYSC scheme as a well-thought-out initiative, aimed at unifying the country, said decade after decade, the scheme has contributed to peaceful co-existence of the people of Nigeria.
“There is no doubt that the founding fathers of Nigeria envisioned a peaceful nation where peace and justice will be upheld. The NYSC scheme has gone ahead to energize this vision and across the various communities, we have seen projects built by visitors, that have impacted lives positively.
“So, it is correct to say that the scheme has to a large extent, accomplished its purpose,” she said.
The Anambra NYSC Coordinator enjoined the corps members to be guided by the oath of allegiance which they pledged to accept their posting in good faith.
“I wish to remind you of the oath of allegiance you took in which you pledged to accept your posting in good faith,” she said.
Iruma further urged them to integrate into their host communities as soon as they report to their Places of Primary Assignment.
“Identify their felt needs and strive to carry out personal or group community development projects to remedy the situation,” she stressed.
