Senator Andy Uba Sturday and Tony Nwonye emerged winners of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial primary elections held in separate venues in Awka Anambra state.
While Uba contested under the PDP faction led by Mr. Ejike Oguebego, Tony Nwoye clinched victory in the Kenneth Emeakayi led PDP, which enjoys a large number of party faithfuls against Uba’s group which had few people in attendance.
Both factions of PDP drew their delegates from the same 326 wards in the state during the exercise. After clinching the ‘ticket’ of their respective factions, the two candidates preached unity, calling on the other side to dissolve into one to ensure that the PDP emerged victorious in the election.
It should be remembered that while the Independent National Electoral Commission said last week that it recognized only the Ejike Oguebego- led faction of the Party, PDP aligned with the Kenneth Emeakayi led PDP in the state.
