Amazon Halts US Drone Deliveries After Testing Crashes

—

Amazon has stopped its drone delivery operations in the U.S. following a crash during testing.

The incident, which took place in Pendleton, Oregon, in December, involved two drones colliding during rainy weather.

This is part of a series of challenges facing Amazon’s Prime Air program, which plans to deliver 500 million packages annually by the end of the decade.

The company also faced an earlier issue in September when two drones collided during a test of a propeller failure scenario.

In response to the latest crash, Amazon has paused drone deliveries in Texas and Arizona.

The halt will remain in effect until the company updates its drone software.

Despite these setbacks, Amazon intends to expand its drone delivery program internationally, though it has already ended drone deliveries in California.
