Colourful posters bearing the image of former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, have appeared across major streets in Kaduna metropolis, sparking speculation about early mobilisation for the 2027 presidential election.
The A2-sized posters, which feature Amaechi’s portrait, describe him as “the only person to be trusted” and “the only man for the job,” with messages centred on unity, equality, stability and development.
Although no political party is mentioned, Amaechi is widely believed to be aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a coalition opposition party.
Amaechi, who holds the traditional title of Dan Amanan Kasar Hausa of Daura, has an extensive political background.
He served as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007, Governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, and Minister of Transportation from 2015 to 2023.
The posters were mounted at strategic locations, including Ahmadu Bello Way, Ali Akilu Way, areas around the Kaduna State Government House, and the busy Kawo Bridge axis towards Zaria, drawing widespread public attention.
Political observers see the move as a sign that Amaechi’s supporters are testing the political waters in the North, a crucial region in presidential elections.
While Amaechi has not made any official declaration, the development has fueled speculation about a possible fresh presidential bid and a potential opposition challenge to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
Amaechi previously contested the APC presidential primary in 2022, where he finished second behind Tinubu, ahead of then Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and former Senate President Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan.
