All Eyes On Nasarawa As Supreme Court Decides Fates Of Six State Governors Shortly

Supreme Court Will End Legitimacy Crisis in Enugu

The Supreme Court has slated Friday 19 January 2024 to deliver judgment on, Kaduna, Nasarawa, Kebbi,  Delta, Ogun and Gombe.

Recall that the Apex Court had earlier reserved judgement in the various appeals against the elections of the governors shortly after arguments were conducted by their respective lawyers in the separate cases.

The above listed states whose appeals will, by law, expire between January 21 and 22 are Nasarawa, Delta, Gombe, Kebbi, and Ogun.

Meanwhile, in Nasarawa State, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the March 18, 2023 governorship election, Hon. David Ombugadu, had approached the apex court to set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal, which invalidated the judgement of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal that announced him winner of the governorship election in the state.

The appellants, through their team of lawyers, led by Chief Kanu Agabi, SAN, submitted that the appellate court erred in law in reversing the decision of the tribunal.

As a result, Agabi, prayed the Supreme Court to “allow the appeal, set aside the judgement of the Court of Appeal, and restore the judgement of the tribunal,” which affirmed his client winner of the poll.

Meantime, as the Supreme Court gets set to decide where the pendulum pans out to, all eyes are on the Nasarawa sate appeal following the traction it has gained as a result of calls by many including the protesting women, for justice to be served.

As at press time, our respondent reported that amidst a massive crowd, Justices were seen already making their way into the chambers ahead of the delivery of judgment.

Details shortly…
