ALGON Hails Makinde, Scores Oyo Govt High on Grassroots Development Drive

The Oyo State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has applauded Governor Seyi Makinde for what it described as significant strides in delivering on his campaign promises, particularly at the grassroots level.

Speaking with journalists in Ibadan on Saturday, the ALGON Chairman in the state, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, said the Makinde-led administration has reshaped the primary healthcare system through the construction and renovation of health facilities across all wards in the state.

He further noted that the government’s widespread infrastructural push has continued to transform both urban and rural communities, stressing that inter-town road networks have been improved across all geopolitical zones, thereby boosting economic activities and easing movement for residents.

Sanda also dismissed claims suggesting that the governor opposed full local government autonomy, explaining that such views were based on a misreading of his remarks regarding the Supreme Court judgment.

According to him, the existing state-local government joint account has not hindered progress at the council level in Oyo State, as both tiers of government continue to work in close cooperation to deliver development projects.

He added that this synergy has resulted in the successful execution of multiple community-based projects across various local government areas in the state.

The ALGON chairman also rejected allegations that the presence of ghost workers in local government payrolls was responsible for insufficient funds for grassroots development, describing such claims as misleading.

Sanda explained that matters relating to recruitment, promotion, discipline, and transfers within the local government system are handled by the Local Government Service Commission.

He assured residents that the administration would intensify efforts to deliver more democratic dividends to communities across the state before the end of Governor Makinde’s tenure.
