Senate President Godswill Akpabio has tendered an apology to Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, senator representing Kogi Central, over his ‘night-club’ remarks to her last week.
Recall that during plenary last week, Akpoti-Uduaghan wanted to make a contribution and was already speaking when Akpabio cautioned her saying she needed to be recognized by the Senate President before making her submission.
‘’Senator Natasha, in the chamber, you have to be recognized before you speak. We are not in a nightclub”
His comment was greeted by mixed reactions and seen by many as disparaging towards the Senator.
Meanwhile, speaking on the floor of the red chamber on Tuesday, July 23, Akpabio said he would never intentionally denigrate any woman.
The senate president said his phone and that of his wife have been bombarded with calls and text messages, most of them insults.
He explained further; “I will not intentionally denigrate any woman and I always pray that God will uplift women. Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologize to you.
The interest shown on social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward. Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media.”
Akpabio also denied social media posting claims that he has “numerous girlfriends”.
“I have only one wife and she is enough for me,” he said.
It would be recalled that earlier popular Nigerian actress, Dakore Egbuson-Akande took to social media to deny reports linking her to a romantic relationship with Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and threatened to sue peddlers of such news.
Controversial blogger Gistlover, recently mentioned Dakore among a list of female celebrities that are alleged to be ‘sidechicks’ of the Senate President, including Nancy Isime, Hilda Baci, and Ini Edo.
However, the mother of two has now made posts on her Instagram page to refute the claim by Gistlover.
She wrote: “I saw text messages and calls this morning, alerting me to a very wicked lie from the pit of hell.
“I must say that I’m very disappointed, shocked and appalled. And I want to categorically state that I have never met the Senate president in my life.
“I have not had any cause to be in the same room with him, not to talk of being his side chick. I’m happily married with two beautiful children.
“So for a jobless, wicked blogger to decide to put my name amongst women who have been with this man is wicked and unfounded.
“It is a lie and I am ready for any legal action because, at this point, you have messed with the wrong person.
“ I keep to myself, mind my business, I drink water and I do my work. So for someone to want to tarnish my hard-earned name and image for some clicks, no way.
“I want to put it out there. Anyone who can provide video or audio evidence that I have been with this man, I would give you N5 million right now.”
This was followed by a post on Instagram, through her lawyer, Olisa Agbakoba Legal, warning the media outlet to delete the libelous allegation against her.
