Four suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have been neutralised, while 12 logistics boats belonging to the group were destroyed in precision airstrikes around Kangarwa in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.
Security analyst said the operation was conducted at about 12:55 p.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, following an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance mission that detected a large concentration of suspected terrorist logistics boats along the riverbank.
According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle on Thursday, 44 boats suspected to belong to ISWAP were initially sighted around Kangarwa before Nigerian Air Force aircraft launched a strike on the area.

Security analysts said a second aircraft conducting armed reconnaissance later observed terrorists attempting to salvage and load some of the damaged boats.
The aircraft subsequently carried out another precision strike on the terrorists gathered around a larger cluster of boats.
He said battle damage assessment confirmed that four suspected terrorists were neutralised and 12 terrorist logistics boats were destroyed.
The aircraft reportedly remained in the area after the strike to monitor further movements and provide continued surveillance.
