The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu Chapter, has donated food items and other essential materials to the Enugu State Family Support Programme (FSP) Children’s Home as part of activities marking the 2026 International Actors Day.
The guild presented the items to the home on Wednesday as part of efforts to support vulnerable children and demonstrate the social responsibilities of actors beyond entertainment.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the donation formed part of activities organized to commemorate the inaugural celebration of International Actors Day in Nigeria.
The Chairman of AGN Enugu Chapter, Brown Ene, said actors had responsibilities beyond interpreting characters on screen.
He said the celebration began with activities including traffic management and environmental sanitation in parts of Enugu.
We want to prove that beyond being actors and acting on screen, we have responsibilities.
“We are fathers, grandfathers and civil servants doing different jobs apart from interpreting characters on screen,” Ene said.
He noted that International Actors Day was celebrated globally and that Nigerian actors joined their counterparts worldwide through the Federation of International Actors (FIA), of which AGN is a member.
Ene urged actors in Enugu to participate actively in guild activities, saying their contributions were essential to the growth of the association and the welfare of its members.
The National Vice-President of AGN, Southeast Zone, Clement Anigbo, said the celebration provided an opportunity for actors to make positive contributions to society.
Anigbo also urged the government to invest more in the creative industry and improve the welfare of actors, particularly elderly and sick practitioners.
“We appeal for reforms that would enable Nigerian actors to benefit from royalties from films in which they participated,” he said.
He also called for greater government support for film production, cinemas, and other initiatives that can strengthen the creative industry and improve actors’ welfare.
An actress, Chidimma Aneke, described the celebration as a welcome development, saying it allowed actors to appreciate one another while giving back to society.
Receiving the donated items, the Coordinator of the FSP Children’s Home, Mrs Ngozi Oguejiofor, thanked the actors for remembering the children.
Oguejiofor said the home welcomed assistance from individuals and organizations because the children required support in various areas.
“The home is not only for motherless children, but also fatherless children, orphans, vulnerable children and those with special needs, such as Down syndrome and cerebral palsy,” she said.
Items donated by the guild included noodles, biscuits, drinks, toiletries and other essential supplies.
