The Chairman of Agege Local Government, Mr Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa, has rolled out a fresh urban renewal drive aimed at giving infrastructure in the council area a much-needed facelift.
The initiative, executed in partnership with the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency (LASURA), sets its sights on flood-ravaged streets such as Kadiri, Bode Tobun, Adesokan and Disu Akogun, alongside other areas crying out for urgent drainage expansion, road repairs and environmental upgrades.
Speaking at the unveiling of the programme on Friday in Lagos, Obasa said the project underscores his administration’s resolve to tackle flooding, crumbling roads and environmental decay that have long burdened residents.
He explained that the scheme centres on holistic drainage construction, road rehabilitation and environmental improvements designed to boost movement and tame floodwaters across Agege communities.
“We are taking deliberate steps, in collaboration with LASURA, to improve drainage systems, rehabilitate roads and enhance environmental conditions in flood-prone areas,” Obasa said.
The council boss stressed that the renewal plan is not a cosmetic patch-up, but a long-term investment in sturdy infrastructure built to withstand environmental stress and strengthen urban resilience.
According to him, functional drainage channels would curb flooding, while smoother roads would oil the wheels of movement and spark economic activity in the affected neighbourhoods.
“From road rehabilitation to drainage improvements, we are delivering the development these communities deserve.
“Better infrastructure enhances mobility and improves living conditions for residents.” he said.
Obasa added that the choice of streets was guided by technical evaluations and feedback from residents, ensuring development trickles beyond major routes into inner streets and residential clusters.
He noted that the programme fits neatly into Agege’s wider blueprint for infrastructure resilience, environmental sustainability and improved urban living standards.
