Again, Buhari returns to London, to spend 16-days

President Muhammadu Buhari will embark on a private visit to London after attending the third edition of the Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr Femi Adesina, confirmed this development in a statement on Monday, saying that the President will be in London for a private visit and will return to Nigeria on November 17 after he must have spent 2 weeks in the UK.

Adesina did not give further details on the President’s trip to London, but it may not be unconnected with his routine medical checkup.

Adesina further disclosed that, on the sideline of the economic forum, President Buhari, who will be departing Abuja today, would hold bilateral talks with His Majesty, King Salman and His Majesty, King Abdullah ll of Jordan.

“On Wednesday, Oct. 30, the President will participate in the High-Level Event titled “What is Next for Africa: How will Investment and Trade Transform the Continent into the Next Great Economic Success Story?” with Presidents of Kenya, Congo-Brazzaville and Burkina Faso.

“At the end of the summit, President Buhari will on Saturday Nov. 2, proceed to the United Kingdom on a private visit,’’ he added.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday returned to Abuja after actively participating in the three-day Russia – Africa Summit held in Sochi, Russia, with about 40 Heads of State and Governments in attendance.

While in Sochi, President Buhari, on October 23 met with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, where the duo agreed to put Nigeria-Russia relations on the front burner, and pursue the completion of all abandoned projects initiated by both countries.

Buhari also departed the country on Monday for Riyadh, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to attend the third edition of the Future Investment Initiative (FII).

In a swift reaction to the frequent trips by the President, a former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central district at the National Assembly, Senator Shehu Sani, has said that there was nothing wrong with the frequent foreign trips by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He, however, noted that such trips should be able to help Nigeria solve its economic and security challenges.

In a tweet on Monday, Sani also advised the President to add businessmen and women and security experts in his entourage.

According to him, “Official foreign trips by Mr President that will bring economic gains to our country or realistically help us in addressing our security challenges is not bad. But we should see Businessmen and security experts on the entourage.”
