Super Eagles duo Simon Moses and Akinkunmi Amoo have been dropped by CAF in the official short-listed players. Simon and Akinkunmi who made the first list released by CAF weeks ago didn’t progress to this stage. The 30-man list has been reduced to ten for the best player category, while the younger player of the year category reduces to 5. The CAF Awards 2022 will be held in Rabat, Morocco on 21 July 2022.
Current holder Sadio, two times winner Mohamed Salah, one time winner Riyad Margez and 7 others make the list.
CAF also announced that the female shortlisted category will be communicated soon.
One of the highly contested categories is that of the CAF Coach of the Year, where Aliou Cisse, Pitso Mosimane, Carlos Queiroz, Tom Saintfiet and Walid Regragui have made the final cut.
The Player of the Year and Interclub Player of the Year has 10 nominees each, whilst the Young Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, National Team of the Year and Club of the Year has five (5) nominees each.
The winners of each category will be decided by a voting panel made up of CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, Head Coaches & Captains of Member Associations and clubs involved at the group stage of the Interclub competitions for the 2021/22 season.
