AFCON2023: Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, Ekong Scale Through CAF’s Anti-Doping Tests

After scaling through the Confederation of African Football (CAF) random anti-doping tests, Super Eagles’ players Victor Osimhen, Moses Simon, and William Troost-Ekong are now cleared to feature in their quarter-final clash with Angola on Friday 2 January.

Recall that the CAF had earlier selected Nigeria international striker Victor Osimhen alongside Super Eagles winger and defender, Moses Simon, and William Troost-Ekong for random drug tests after their last group match and 2-0 Round of 16 victory over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

The African best player of the year, Osimhen was one of the star performers when the Super Eagles squad had an encounter on the group stage in the Round of 16 clash against Cameroon that saw them qualify for the quarter finals.

It was gathered that the Napoli productive striker underwent the test following the match against Guinea-Bissau.

Meanwhile, FC Nantes winger, Simon Moses, and Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong were also subjected to dope tests.

Reports say, the random tests are standard procedures, typically carried out on players whose enhanced energy levels may raise suspicions of substance use.

In the same vain, sources revealed that two Cameroonian players also underwent similar tests, noting that Osimhen is not the sole player involved in the tournament.

Meantime, the Super Eagles will lock horns with Angola in the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFCON tournament on Friday.
