AFCON 2025 Qualifiers: Super Eagles’ Huge Victory Over Benin Fires Them to the Top of Group D

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated their neighbors, the Benin Republic, in their first qualifier with a huge victory at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria.

Nigeria had a perfect first half, controlling 64% of the ball possession against Benin Republic’s 36%.

Ademola’s extra-time strike before halftime earned Nigeria the lead going into the break.

The second half began with Nigeria still in charge on their home turf against the Benin side. Osimhen was introduced for Victor Boniface in the 72nd minute and scored just seven minutes later.

Ademola Lookman completed his brace, scoring Nigeria’s third goal in the 83rd minute.

Nigeria goes to the top of Group D, being the only side to have earned three points after the first group game.
