Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) stated Wednesday that business organizations in Nigeria should be encouraged to use greener energy due to the rising cost of fossil fuel-powered generators, which might result in an energy cost reduction of over 70%.
Speaking at the signing of a tripartite agreement between AEDC, Daystar Power, and The Wood Factory, the organization’s managing director, Christopher Ezeafulukwe, stated that the deal will result in the generation of roughly 18 hours of energy each day for the organization.
Ezeafuluke pointed out that in order to accomplish carbon footprint reduction targets, lower operational costs, and have energy security, the government must implement an energy mix despite the problems posed by the national grid failure.
“We are questioning the current grid electricity status quo. We are challenging the methods by which we are distributing and supplying electricity. The makeup of the energy sources we use is likewise under scrutiny.”
“In terms of impact, this transaction will save almost 40% on energy and nearly 70% on costs. If you’re going to cater to the diverse range of clients that we have in our network, you discover that allows you to manage the cost of scaling up,” he said.
Approximately 4,000 megawatts of power are still available on the grid ten years after Nigeria privatized its electrical industry, despite the fact that the majority of corporate organizations find the grid to be incredibly unreliable.
In Nigeria, residential homes make up at least 80% of the energy users, with manufacturing and business organizations receiving the remaining 20%.
In order to lessen reliance on diesel-powered generators, Ezeafuluke emphasized the importance of collaboration and added that the development will benefit all parties involved.
He stated that there is no other choice but to start giving environmental energy sources priority and that the promotion of greener energy is imperative.
According to Ezeafuluke, the distribution organization is going through a transformation, and sustainable energy sources are one of the main areas where businesses might find alternatives and save money.
In order to provide communities with more energy options, Ezeafuluke noted that the company recently put a 352kWp solar hybrid mini-grid project into service.
