1. Former Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Alison Madueke, has petitioned the Lagos State High Court to prevent his estranged wife, Diezani Alison-Madueke, from using his surname. He seeks a legal end to their marriage and for Diezani to revert to her maiden name, Agama. Madueke claims her continued use of his name harms his reputation, especially given the corruption allegations against her. Married in 1999, their union was dissolved in April 2022 following Diezani’s November 2021 divorce filing. Despite this, Diezani still uses his surname. Madueke argues this misleads the public and seeks an injunction to stop her from using his name, along with a public announcement of her name change. Diezani, a former Nigerian minister and OPEC President faces embezzlement charges involving $2.5 billion.
2. Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), declared that Ireti Kingibe, the senator representing the FCT, will not be reelected in 2027. Speaking at the construction launch of the Mabushi bus terminal in Abuja, Wike criticized Kingibe’s performance as a legislator, particularly her lack of contribution to education and health sectors through sponsored bills. He challenged her to run again in 2027, asserting that she would lose. Wike’s comments follow ongoing tensions between the two politicians, with Kingibe accusing Wike of sidelining her and neglecting the needs of FCT residents, such as clean water and quality healthcare.
3. INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, has stated that the commission lacks constitutional power to conduct local government elections, except in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Speaking at a retreat for INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in Lagos, he emphasized that only a constitutional amendment could enable INEC to take over these elections from the State Independent Electoral Commissions (SIECs). The retreat aimed to prepare RECs for upcoming governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states and other bye-elections. Yakubu also emphasized the importance of training RECs and engaging with the National Assembly for necessary legal reforms to ensure credible elections
4. The family of the late former Konga CEO, Nick Imudia, has disputed claims that he died by suicide. They stated there was no evidence supporting the suicide report, prompting the Lagos Police to investigate the circumstances of his death. The family criticized the media for unprofessionally reporting his death as a suicide and clarified that Nick did not make any calls about distributing his property, as previously reported. They emphasized that Nick showed no signs of stress or depression and was full of life. Nick, who was the Group CEO of D.light International in Nairobi, had a successful career with Nokia before becoming CEO of Konga Nigeria.
5. Popular Nigerian actress Omoni Oboli is about to become a grandmother as her son, Tobe, and his wife, Marelle Oboli, are expecting their first child, a baby girl. The couple, who got engaged in January and married in March, shared the joyful news of their upcoming parenthood.
