Atlético Madrid have confirmed that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has arrived in the Spanish capital to complete medical checks ahead of a move from Italian side Atalanta.
The development follows a full agreement between both clubs, bringing the Super Eagles star closer to a switch to La Liga.
Club sources say the transfer is now at its final stage, pending the medical examination and contract formalities.
The move caps weeks of speculation around Lookman’s future, with Atlético beating off late interest from other European clubs to secure the deal.
Atlético agreed to a package valued at up to €40 million, including performance-related bonuses, with Lookman committing to a long-term contract that runs until 2031.
The Spanish side reportedly moved quickly after decisive talks with Atalanta and the player’s representatives.
Lookman joins Atlético after an outstanding spell in Italy that elevated him into one of Europe’s most feared wide attackers.
His defining moment came in the 2024 Europa League final, where he scored a historic hat trick to hand Atalanta their first major European trophy and end Bayer Leverkusen’s long unbeaten run.
Since arriving at Atalanta in 2022, Lookman delivered 55 goals and 27 assists in all competitions, performances that also earned him the 2024 African Footballer of the Year award. Atlético see him as a key addition as they reshape their attack for the coming seasons.
