ADC Installs New Anambra Leadership

A fresh leadership structure has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction aligned with the national leadership under Sen. David Mark, following a state congress held in Anambra on Saturday.

The exercise, conducted through a consensus arrangement, saw Mr. Christopher Nwosu assume the position of state chairman, with Chigbo Enwezo taking up the role of secretary.

The decision to adopt a consensus approach was formally moved by Mr. Timothy Egboka and seconded by Benchucks Nwosu during the proceedings.

In addition to electing new executives, the congress endorsed previously conducted congresses across the state and approved the dissolution of all existing executive bodies at the local government, ward, and polling unit levels. These resolutions were passed through separate motions that received due backing from party stakeholders.

Chief Lawrence Ezeudu, alongside Onyebuchi Offor, moved and seconded the motion ratifying earlier ward and local government congresses. Similarly, Mr. Vincent Ofumelu and Mr. Chudi Orizu spearheaded and supported the motion dissolving all existing executive committees across the state’s political structure.

Speaking at the event, Amb. Fidel Ayogu, who chaired the congress committee, explained that the consensus model was consistent with the party’s constitution and served as a practical response to the difficulties associated with direct primaries.

He maintained that the ADC continues to stand strong despite internal and external challenges, urging members to remain steadfast and optimistic.

Ayogu further noted that the congress was conducted in line with directives from the National Working Committee led by Sen. David Mark, with Mr. Peter Obi recognised as the party’s leader in Anambra.

“Anambra is a strong base of ADC, not because of Peter Obi but because we have two distinguished Senators, members of House of Representatives and House of Assembly from here.

“By virtue of the power vested in me as the Chairman of ADC Congress committee in Anambra and by the Congress conducted through consensus, I present you as the new leadership of the party in Anambra,” he said.
