The Adamawa State Government received 42,000 metric tons of grains from the National Strategic Reserve for distribution among schools and vulnerable groups in the state, on Friday.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the grains include 462 metric tons of maize, 199.5 metric tons of millet, and 546 metric tons of sorghum.

Mrs. Zubaida Umar, Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), handed over the items to the state government in Yola.

The NEMA director-general, represented by Mr. Yakubu Suleiman, NEMA Zonal Director for the North-East, stated that the grains would be distributed equally across all 21 local government areas in Adamawa State.

President Bola Tinubu has directed that 20 percent of the food items allocated to each local government be given to religious organizations, including Jama’atu Nasril Islam and the Christian Association of Nigeria, and three percent to boarding schools within the council areas.

State Deputy Governor Prof. Kaletapwa Farauta expressed gratitude to the President for the support and praised NEMA for the safe and timely delivery of the food items. Farauta assured that the grains would be distributed equally and used effectively by the state.

Mr. Samuel Wagereng, Executive Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Management Board, received the items on behalf of the benefiting schools.

He thanked the Federal Government for the initiative, emphasizing that the food items would significantly aid in feeding students in boarding schools across the state.
