Abuja Cooking Gas Prices Drop Below N1,500 Per Kg as Supply Improves

Residents of Abuja are beginning to enjoy some relief as the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, popularly known as cooking gas, has declined after reaching nearly N2,000 per kilogram in recent weeks.

A market survey across numerous stores in the Federal Capital Territory around Bhyazhin and Arab Road regions of Kubwa reveals LPG now costs between N1,498 and N1,650 per kg , therefore lowering the cost of refilling a 5kg cylinder to between N7,490 and N8,250 and a 12.5kg cylinder now costs between N18,725 and N20,625.

The News Chronicle reports that some roadside sellers still charge as much as N1,850 per kg even if the decrease is happening. Improved product availability and lower wholesale prices helped industry professionals to explain the price drop, but they cautioned that more local manufacture, better storage capacity, and better distribution networks will be needed for long-term stability.

To help to lower reliance on imports, the Federal Government has also stepped up campaigns against supply interruptions, look at storing, and encourage local produced LPG. Although customers have welcomed the price reduction, many think cooking gas is still costly and wish the trend would keep going in the next months.
