Abia State is set to bring tertiary institutions together for a major sporting event, with the 2026 Abia State Tertiary Education Sports Fiesta taking place from November 3 to 6.
The much-anticipated inter-institutional sports festival, which will hold in Umuahia Township Stadium, is expected to host students/athletes from all the federal, state, and private institutions in the state.
The News Chronicle reports that the organizers of the inaugural Association of Students and Teachers Sports Festival (ASTESF) hold promises of talent scouting, youth development and relationship building between the institutions and stakeholders.
Dr Emeka Enyiazu, Chairman of the Central Organizing Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on Tertiary Education, said the committee is already in the process of making necessary preparations for the games.
Sub-committees on technical, medical, security, logistics, media and publicity, welfare and ceremonies are in session.
The organizers of the upcoming ASTESF 2015, which the News Chronicle reports will be a do-main show, revealed that it would provide a platform for the identification of potentials and talents in student athletes and groom them to stardom.
They also hope that the sports festival would boost the sports performance of tertiary institutions in Abia State as well as provide a meeting point for young sportsmen and women from the different institutions to promote and develop their games.
