Abducted Anambra Commissioner Regains Freedom

Awka – The Anambra State Commissioner for Public Utilities, Engineer Emeka Ezenwanne, who was kidnapped by unknown gunmen last week, has been released.

A police source told TNC that Engineer Ezenwanne was released during the early hours of Easter Sunday, 4th April, 2021.

The State Commissioner for Information, Mr C-Don Adinuba also confirmed the news of the release.

Ezenwanne was abducted after gunmen invaded the venue of a townhall meeting which former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo held with his kinsmen at Isuofia in Aguata Council Area of Anambra State last week.

Three policemen were confirmed to have been killed by the assailants.

Mr James Eze, the Chief Press Secretary to Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano in an Easter message quoted the Governor as saying that as Nigeria’s safest state, criminal elements who have been put out of business will continue to test the state’s resolve,  but said the state will always bounce back stronger.

“Public safety is tied to liberty and the price of liberty is eternal vigilance. We shall continue to stay awake to ensure that Ndi Anambra can sleep with both eyes closed,” the CPS quotes the governor as saying.

In the statement, the Governor commended the officers and men of the Anambra State Police Command for rising swiftly to the occasion after the recent incident where the former CBN Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo was attacked by gunmen in his Isuofia hometown, and arresting of four suspects.
