A Virtuous Woman Doesn’t Wait for Her Husband,’ Veekee James Sparks Debate

Fashion designer Veekee James is facing mixed reactions online following a speech she made as a panelist at a women’s conference held in the United States.

The designer had advised women to maintain financial independence and not rely solely on their husbands for household needs.

A clip from the event, where she said a “virtuous woman does not wait for her husband before buying what the home needs,” spread widely on social media, prompting a wave of disagreement and support.

Several users criticised her remarks, arguing that she often refers to herself as the main provider in her home. One user wrote that she “always gives marriage advice like she has been married for 100 years,” while another said she “never hesitates to say she is the breadwinner of her home.”

Others defended her, saying her message encouraged responsibility rather than the rejection of traditional roles. Supporters noted that she has built a strong career and is “self-sufficient, booked, and busy.” Another commentator said she only advised women to “take care of themselves and their children, and be financially stable enough to assist when their husbands cannot.”

A longer post circulating online also backed her position, stating that not everyone will marry a wealthy partner and that many homes depend on combined incomes to maintain stability. The writer argued that James’ advice reflects current economic realities rather than a dismissal of men’s responsibilities.

Responding to the online debate, Veekee James said, “I said what I said,” maintaining her stance.

The fashion designer and gospel minister also shared on her Instagram page that “everyone wants to be a virtuous woman, but nobody wants to pay the price,” adding the caption: “‘Proverbs 31:10–25.’ Read with the understanding of the Holy Spirit and not yours.”
