The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has warned members of the public against fake social media pages and accounts using its name, logo and institutional identity to circulate unauthorised information.
The warning was contained in a public disclaimer signed by Shafii Sani Mohammed, Head of Information and Publications Division of NAHCON.
The Commission stated that it neither owns nor authorises any social media page, group or account outside its recognised official communication platforms.
NAHCON expressed concern over the circulation of unverified, misleading and potentially harmful information by individuals and groups attempting to create the false impression of official affiliation with the Commission.
It urged members of the public to obtain information exclusively from its recognised platforms and disregard announcements or publications circulated through unauthorised pages and groups.
The Commission also advised Nigerians against sharing unverified information, encouraging them to report suspicious accounts using its name, logo or identity without approval.
NAHCON further warned administrators of such platforms to immediately stop misrepresenting the Commission or publishing misleading content in its name.
It added that it reserves the right to take appropriate administrative and legal action against those involved to protect its identity and reputation.
The Commission identified its official communication channels as its website, www.nahcon.gov.ng, Facebook, X and Instagram handles, @nigeriahajjcom, as well as its YouTube channel, youtube.com/@nahcon.
It urged the public to rely only on these verified platforms for accurate and reliable information regarding Hajj and Umrah activities.
