BREAKING: One Dead, Several Feared Trapped as Two-Storey Building Collapses in Lagos

—

One person has been confirmed dead after a two-storey building under construction collapsed in the Fadeyi area of Lagos State on Friday, with several others feared trapped beneath the debris.

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, the building collapsed in the early hours of Friday, prompting emergency responders to launch search and rescue operations to determine whether more people remained trapped.

He said LASEMA received a distress call about the incident at 12:10 a.m., leading to the immediate activation of its Cobra Response Team from the agency’s Onipanu base.

The response team arrived at the scene at 12:12 a.m. and discovered that the two-storey structure, which was still under construction, had collapsed.

Oke-Osanyintolu said preliminary observations suggested that construction workers might have been trapped beneath the rubble, prompting the team to commence search and rescue operations.

He added that emergency responders immediately began efforts to locate and evacuate victims while implementing safety measures to protect those trapped and personnel involved in the rescue operation.
