At least 14 security personnel have reportedly been killed after bandits loyal to notorious bandit leader Kachalla Gwaska Dankarami attacked two communities in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The attackers reportedly stormed Bindin and Gobirawar Chali communities on Monday, killing security personnel and some civilians during the assault.
The exact number of civilian casualties remained unclear as of Tuesday, while authorities and residents continued efforts to establish the full details of the attack and identify those killed.
The violence has also forced thousands of residents to flee their homes and seek refuge in safer areas, according to reports from the affected communities.
The latest attack has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Zamfara, where rural communities have continued to face bandit attacks, abductions and displacement.
Residents displaced by the violence are now confronted with the challenge of finding shelter, food and other basic necessities after abandoning their homes.
The incident has renewed calls for sustained security operations and stronger measures to protect vulnerable communities and tackle the persistent wave of banditry across the state.
As families mourn those killed and thousands remain displaced, the attacks have once again highlighted the devastating impact of banditry on communities in Zamfara State.
