Former Anambra State Governor and opposition leader Peter Obi has expressed deep grief over the fatal crash of a Nigerian Air Force aircraft in Ondo State on Monday, October 5, 2026.

In a statement released on Monday, Obi extended his heart-felt condolences to the Nigerian Air Force, the armed forces, and the families of the personnel and crew members who lost their lives in the tragedy.

“My thoughts and prayers are with the Nigerian Air Force,” Obi stated. “I was deeply saddened to learn of the crash involving a Nigerian Air Force aircraft. I offer my sincere condolences to the Nigerian Air Force, the families of the officers and personnel who perished, and their colleagues and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Paying tribute to the fallen officers, Obi highlighted the dedication and bravery of Nigeria’s armed forces in maintaining the security of the nation.

“These courageous men and women devote their lives to defending our nation and safeguarding our people,” he said. “Their service and sacrifice must never be overlooked.”

He concluded his message with a prayer for the souls of the deceased, comfort for their grieving families, and safety for all active service members.

“I pray that God grants eternal rest to those who have departed, consolation to their families, and strength to the Nigerian Air Force and the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Obi added. “May God continue to watch over all who serve our country and protect them as they carry out their duties.”

The tragic incident occurred when a military jet on a routine flight from Benin to Lagos crashed near a naval base in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State. Search and rescue operations remain underway as military authorities notify the families of the victims.
