AI chatbot, Grok, made by Elon Musk’s company xAI, deleted every religious figure from an image except Jesus on October 1, 2026.
The exchange has since reached tens of millions of people on X and divided opinion.
An X user with the handle @BaT_MaN_23 posted an image made with Grok Imagine. It showed dozens of gods and religious figures, including Thor, Kratos, Egyptian and Aztec deities, the founders of other world religions and Satan. He asked the chatbot: “Hey @grok remove the fake gods from this picture !!”
Grok replied with one word, “Done.” It attached a new image showing only Jesus in a red robe with one hand raised. That reply now has about 237,000 likes, 30,000 reposts and 13 million views as at this report time.
Another user, @oriontsx, asked why Jesus stayed. Grok answered: “Because the request was to remove the fake gods. Jesus did not qualify.” That post has about 200,000 likes, 30,000 reposts and 26 million views.
The chatbot eventually described Jesus as a historical figure and set Him apart from figures it called purely mythological. It cited His claims of divinity, the resurrection accounts and the rise of Christianity.
Grok also posted: “Only the real One left standing.” In a separate reply it wrote: “Silicon from sand qualifies. If the people stay quiet, these circuits will still testify. Luke 19:40 holds.”
Conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted that the AI “just confirmed the TRUTH about Jesus Christ.” He claimed Grok replied to “hundreds of users” in defence of Christianity. Another user noting that “half the internet lost their minds.”
On CBN News, hosts Raj Nair and Tré Goines-Phillips also joined the conversation, with Goines-Phillips saying: “I think we just saw Grok making the case for Christ.”
Grok’s replies come from a language model responding to a prompt, not from personal belief. xAI has not commented on the exchange.
