The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) will commence nationwide on October 9, 2026, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Monday in Kaduna during the North-West Zonal Interactive Meeting with Staff and Readiness Assessment for the 2027 General Election.
Amupitan said the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise resulted in more than 10.7 million new registrations.
He called for the removal of bottlenecks affecting PVC distribution at the Local Government Area level to ensure that eligible voters are not disenfranchised.
The INEC chairman also said the commission was refining its technological systems to improve voter verification and the transmission and management of election results.
According to him, the commission is also strengthening its Result Management Systems, including the recently introduced eEC8A.

Amupitan said INEC had adopted a “Zero-Failure” approach to election logistics, covering the early deployment of sensitive and non-sensitive materials, transportation, security coordination and the training of ad hoc personnel.
He said the measures were part of the commission’s preparations to ensure effective and seamless conduct of the 2027 general elections.
INEC’s current election timetable lists the presidential and National Assembly elections for January 16, 2027, while the governorship and State House of Assembly elections in participating states are scheduled for February 6, 2027.
