Kano is set to witness two separate royal processions on Sunday, September 27, 2026, as the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, are expected to hold separate traditional activities within the city.
Sanusi II is scheduled to lead the Hawan Babban Daki from his palace, Gidan Tunda. His procession is expected to pass through Kofar Kwaru and Mandawari before proceeding towards Galadanci later in the evening.
Meanwhile, Aminu Ado Bayero is expected to leave his palace for his residence in Mandawari. His procession will later move through Kofar Kwaru towards Unguwar Yakasai, where he is scheduled to attend a Qur’anic graduation ceremony as part of the Hawan Fatahu Yakasai.
The announced routes have drawn attention because both processions are expected to pass through Mandawari and Kofar Kwaru on the same day and around similar times.
The development is likely to attract significant public attention, particularly among supporters of the two royal camps, who could converge in some of the same areas.

The rivalry between Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero dates back to the 2024 changes to the Kano Emirate structure, following the Kano State Government’s reinstatement of Sanusi II and the removal of Bayero from the position.
Bayero has continued to lay claim to the emirship and operates from the Nasarawa Palace, while Sanusi II conducts his activities from Gidan Tunda.
Sunday’s simultaneous royal activities are therefore expected to be closely followed as both sides carry out their respective traditional engagements across Kano.
